Rachel is Wine Network Consulting's
newest member having started in February 2006 as both a Winemaking and
Viticultural consultant.
Rachel specialises in:
- Winemaking advice

- Vineyard assessment and due
diligence
- Relationship between fruit and
wine quality
Rachel's interests in winemaking
and viticulture have taken her far a field having worked for a period
of time in the Columbia Valley in Washington State and the Sonoma Valley,
California along with New Zealand and various wineries in Australia.
After studying her Bachelor of
Agriculture (Oenology major) at University of Adelaide, Rachel worked
in the Sonoma Valley at the super premium Matanzas Creek winery. Following
this she worked for an extended period of time in Washington State.
This allowed her to further her passion of both winemaking and viticulture,
working with one of the leading research viticulturists in trialling
new vineyard techniques and applications along with liaising with company
and private growers alike in the implementation of balancing vine growth
to promote vineyard health and fruit quality leading to true sustainability
in yield and profitability. Rachel's winemaking experience has led her
to numerous experimental designs and winemaking procedures involved
with clone/ varietal trials along with extensive yeast/ bacterial/ barrel
experimentation.
After returning from the USA, Rachel
worked as winemaker/ viticulturist for a small ultra premium boutique
winery on Waiheke Island, New Zealand. Here she worked on improving
winemaking style along with expanding the vineyard production to include
a wider range of varieties.
For a short period of time Rachel
operated her own winemaking consultancy business based in Melbourne,
where she offered a wide range of winemaking advice to clients primarily
based in the Yarra Valley and central Victoria.
